‘Inspire Suffolk’ World of Work Day at Ravenswood

We were very proud to hold our first ‘World of Work Day’ at our Ravenswood site yesterday, for a group of young people from Inspire Suffolk.

After an induction and health & safety briefing by Contracts Manager Peter Flatt, the group were kitted out in full PPE. Accompanied by Peter and Project Manager, Lee Walsom, the two groups had sessions with five different trades – plumbing, electrical, scaffolding, bricklaying and plastering to understand more about what each trade does and career opportunities.

They were able to ask questions to the trades about how to get into that sector, salaries, apprenticeships, entry qualifications and much more. In some sessions, they were able to have a go…revealing a few future plasterers and scaffolders in the group!

Allison Copeman from the CITB gave a presentation on career routes and training before the day ended with the group leaving, loaded up with goody bags.

Aside from supporting as a sponsor, we are working with the charity to encourage more young people to train for a career in construction, or simply to help build their confidence to get back into the workplace.

We are so grateful for the incredible support of our sub-contractors: EPPH Ltd, John Nichols Plastering, Ace Bugg Brickwork, Anglian Demolition and Asbestos Ltd, and MCE Electrical Contractors who gave up their time and provided experts for the sessions, Tiger Supplies, who generously sponsored full PPE for each young person and the staff from Inspire as well as Allison Copeman from the CITB.

Inspire have helped thousands of young people take their next steps into work, education or training, transforming their lives, overcoming obstacles and bringing their career aspirations to life. Check them out: https://inspiresuffolk.org.uk/
